Prospective Parliamentary Candidates
On Wednesday 13th November Paul Hopfensperger visited St Benedict's to talk to a group of students and staff about his campaign to run as an Independent candidate in the forthcoming general election.
A group of between 20 - 30 students (ranging from Year 7 - 13) and staff gave up their lunchtime to attend the meeting and were pleased to have the opportunity to listen to him outline his priorities, and engage in a question and answer session.
The next prospective parliamentary candidate to visit the school will be Helen Geake from the Green Party who will be visiting the school on Monday 18th November.
Hopefully, the students and staff will have the opportunity to meet with all the prospective parliamentary candidates for Bury St Edmunds during the course of the election campaign.
The Year 12 Politics students have taken the lead in organising the School Election which will also take place on the 12th December. Next week, all students will be registering to vote in their tutor groups; and the Year 12 Politics students will begin to organise political parties with a view to electing prospective candidates.
These activities have been promoting a lot of interest in politics and the school election is likely to be as exciting as the real one!
